This video series will display the EVENTS, SURPRISING LOCATION, and IMPLICATIONS of Pentecost by utilizing stunning videography from the land of Israel. The truth of scripture will move from pages in a book to power in your life.
THE PROMISE - Pentecost is an integral part of the world of the charismatic church. Ordinarily a Jewish holiday in celebration of the spring harvest, today Pentecost more notably serves as a day to celebrate the anniversary of God’s outpouring of His Holy Spirit upon the church in the first century. THE GIFT - Our prayer for you is to experience a renewed zeal for the work of God on earth and in your life. THE WITNESS - Just like those original recipients, we continue in the race of spreading of the gospel as we are empowered by the indwelling and coming-upon power of the Spirit of God.
At the bottom of each section, there is a supplemental video entitled "Dig Deeper". This is provided to continue the conversation of Pentecost in a more in-depth and academic manner. We are extremely grateful and honored to have guest teachers provide their knowledge of not only scripture, but of the culture, history, geography and spirituality of those first recipients whom God chose to pour out His Spirit.
“Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Luke 24: 46-49
Just as God the Father of the Old Testament is still the same Father of the New Testament, the Spirit of God continues to move. In the Old Testament the Spirit of the Lord served to empower those whom God called for individual purposes. Though the Spirit appeared to be more selectively given in the Old Testament, the manner in which it was given does not differ from the New Testament. The Spirit of the living God falls upon those whom He calls, for each and every believer who bears the truth and the goodness of the Gospel.
CHLS Director Amy Flattery and Educational Content & Teaching Specialist Jeremy Stein host a discussion with Dr. Scott Stripling about what Pentecost is Biblically and historically providing insight into the setting by which God pours out His Spirit.
"When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."
The location of the outpouring is not a mystery for those who look at the text of the Bible, and realize that the place where the Spirit of the Holy one came down and baptized his followers can still be seen today! It is the place where His presence once rested, where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac, it is Mount Moriah, a location where, due to the hundreds of ritual immersion baths, 3,000 could be baptized. But more important, the power that was bestowed upon his followers 2,000 years ago is still being poured out on his followers today.
CHLS Director Amy Flattery and Educational Content & Teaching Specialist Jeremy Stein host a discussion with Dr. Jeffrey García about the location of the events of Pentecost and why it matters to our faith and how we can understand scripture more clearly.
"For so the Lord has commanded us, saying,
‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’
And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed."
Although the book of Acts and the New Testament writings were scripted nearly 2000 years ago, the power and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and the mission that Jesus gave the church continues!
It still calls to everyone reminding that we are still His witnesses, empowered through the Spirit of the Holy One to take the Gospel to the very ends of the earth.
CHLS Director Amy Flattery and Educational Content & Teaching Specialist Jeremy Stein host a discussion with Dr. Scott Stripling about the convergence of Pentecost and the academic world, and how we as Christians should do our best to extend faith into every area of the world.
